Prize rules
Last updated: 16 September 2026
These rules cover the FishSpotter prize: a free printed copy of the Seasearch guide to the marine life of Britain and Ireland. They sit alongside our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
The short version
- Earn 2,000 Pebbles by spotting, and you can claim the book. Nothing is deducted.
- It is free. There is nothing to buy, and postage is free.
- We post to UK addresses only.
- If you are under 18, a parent or carer must say yes first, and we arrange delivery with them, not you.
- It is won by effort and skill, never by chance.
Who runs it
The promoter is Plant Ecology Beyond Land (PEBL) CIC, a Community Interest Company registered in England and Wales, company number 12076622, registered office PO Box SA29JA, 29 Glan Yr Afon Road, Sketty, Swansea, United Kingdom, SA2 9JA. Contact: hello@pebl-cic.co.uk.
Who can claim
Anyone who plays FishSpotter can work towards the prize, whatever their age or wherever they live. To receive the book:
- you need a postal address in the United Kingdom;
- if you are under 18, your parent or carer must agree by answering our email;
- directors and staff of PEBL CIC cannot claim.
How to qualify
You can see your progress on each of these on the Stats page, from your first Pebble.
- Earn 2,000 Pebbles. Pebbles come from identifying clips. The total is your lifetime earnings; claiming takes nothing away and does not change your leaderboard rank.
- Tell us your age when the app asks.
- Have a confirmed way to reach you. For most spotters that is a confirmed email address on your account. Under-13s never give us their own email: instead, a parent or carer saves their account.
- Spot on at least 5 separate days, spread over at least 14 days, on an account at least 14 days old.
- Have a track record of identifications that other spotters agree with. This is our fair-play check. We do not publish how it works, so it cannot be gamed.
- If you are under 18, get a parent or carer's OK. Press "Ask a parent or carer" on the Stats page. We email them once, explain the prize, and wait for them to say yes.
How to claim
- When every step shows a tick, press Claim your guide on the Stats page. By claiming you confirm the book can be sent to a UK address.
- Within 7 days we email you, or your parent or carer if you are under 18, to ask where to send it.
- We aim to post the book within 30 days of receiving the address.
If we hear nothing back within 60 days of our email, we may close the claim. Write to us and we will reopen it.
The prize
- One printed copy of the Seasearch guide per person. You can only claim it once.
- There is no cash alternative.
- If the guide becomes unavailable, we will offer a marine identification guide of similar or greater value instead, and tell you before we send it.
Fair play
We may withhold or cancel a prize if we reasonably believe the Pebbles were not earned fairly, for example through more than one account, automated answering, or copying other spotters' answers. We will tell you why and give you a chance to explain.
We do not publish winners' names.
Your information
To send the prize we use your email address (or your parent or carer's) and the postal address you give us. We use the address only to post the book, and delete it within 90 days of posting. For under-18s we never ask the child for an address. Our Privacy Policy has the detail, including your rights.
How long the prize runs
There is no fixed closing date. If we decide to end the prize, or change these rules, we will say so on this page at least 28 days before the change, and every claim made before then will be honoured on the rules that applied when it was made.
Law
These rules are governed by the law of England and Wales. The prize is free to enter and is decided by skill and effort, not chance, so it is not a lottery or a game of chance.
